Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul be just another human soul.

Meet Jaime (& Moose)
Jaime Walker, LCSW
Hi there! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of New York. I knew at the age of 17 that I wanted to go into mental health but I took the scenic route here. I received my BA in Psychology from University of Maryland, College Park. During a particularly stressful period in my undergrad career I sought therapy at the counseling center. I was told by a therapist there that I would never get into grad school or become a therapist due to my struggling GPA at the time and over-saturation in the field, yet here I am. Needless to say, I now have a great deal of empathy for clients who have had a not-so-great therapy experience. However, I have had wonderful experiences in therapy that also helped me learn what it is like to be in “the other chair.”
That experience was undoubtedly discouraging and led me to veer from my ultimate goal for a few years after graduating. I worked for several years in the corporate world doing HR/Talent Acquisition. Although this was not my dream, I am grateful for my time there as it has helped me relate to my clients who work in corporate settings.
For a year, I was a volunteer advocate for survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence through Mount Sinai. After this experience, I decided it was time to apply to grad school and pursue my dream of becoming a therapist. I received my MSW from NYU Silver School of Social Work, with a stellar GPA, I might add. During grad school, I interned at the Home-Based Crisis Intervention program through Visiting Nurse Service of NY. There I worked with children and adolescents in acute psychiatric distress. My second internship led me to a private practice called Refresh Psychotherapy in NYC where I came on as a clinician post-graduation. I stayed at Refresh for several years gaining strong clinical experience and honing my therapeutic style.
From the story above, I learned it is always worth it to give yourself a shot, so now I start the new adventure of my own practice, Waypoint Psychotherapy. I’m excited for this chapter and to bring my compassion and authenticity to new clients.
Outside of the therapist role – I love exploring the Hudson Valley! My husband and I moved to Ossining two years ago and have enjoyed being part of the community. I love to hike with my dog, Moose, and enjoy time in the backyard. A new interest of mine is learning about folklore. I am perpetually excited for Halloween and am always looking for the coziest pair of socks.
Moose
Although he is not currently a therapy dog, I am considering getting him trained to become one. For now, he likes to make occasional cameos on virtual sessions. Mostly to say “hello” and then fall asleep behind my chair. He is a rescue from Tennessee and the definition of a gentle giant.
